Story telling
I first discovered the joys of story-telling as a teacher, when I loved engaging the children’s imagination and taking them on a journey. It still thrills me to see even the most challenging members of a group sitting in silent anticipation of what will happen next. Having spent six years as a Foundation Stage teacher I took a ‘break’ to work as an actor with several theatre companies and teach a theatre club for Foundation and Key Stage 1 children. As a storyteller I trained under Gemma Hannah. (Once Upon a Story)
Story-telling is fun for all age groups and abilities. Facts can be dry and easily forgotten but in a story we engage with the characters, we experience with them and we remember. Professional story-telling inspires us and becomes a shared experience, unique to each audience. In the classroom it supports speaking and listening skills, use of language and imagination.
Story-telling makes us think, teaches us and helps us to grow. It is part of the oral tradition through which mankind has learnt since people started talking to each other. As a teacher and an actor I have the experience and talent to engage with audiences of all ages and abilities. This is not a job for me; it is a joy. I guarantee to give your audience a professional, engaging, creative and enjoyable story-telling session.
Topics include Traditional tales, Native American stories, and stories from history and around the world. I am always looking to increase my repertoire, so if you have a particular story or topic that you would like me to include please ask.
